Psychics have been around since time immemorial. In ancient times when technology and science was very young – if it even existed then – they have understandably flourished. People, then, believed in many things. After all, there was no other means through which they could answer their questions. For example, when somebody gets sick, they had no way of knowing that foreign microorganisms had infected the individual’s body, so they resort to spiritual explanations. Psychics would then say that an ancestor’s spirit is displeased, so they made him or her sick.
But what is a psychic? A psychic is a person who has an exceptionally powerful mental gift that he or she can communicate well with the supernatural, spirits and ghosts alike. It is not hard to understand why people in the past easily believed psychic readings as explained in the first part.
The thing is, however, psychics still abound today. In this age when Science and Technology runs the lives of men, it is somehow hard to imagine why psychic readings are still sought after by a lot of people. After all, scientists, psychiatrists, and psychologists all deny the possibility of anyone having such ability. Thousands of studies have been conducted by different mental experts on this subject, but none were able to confirm it.
Apparently, this doesn’t stop people from seeking psychic readings. Why do some people need them? Well, some of us are too attached with our loved ones that it is so heartbreaking to part with them. As a result, some people try to contact them when they die – or at least, contact their spirits.
Psychic readings can take a lot of forms. Sometimes, the psychic will use spiritual instruments like the spirit of glass through which the contacted spirit can talk through. Sometimes, the psychic himself becomes the vessel. In other words, the spirit will momentarily take over the body of the psychic so he or she will be able to physically talk with his or her loved ones. No wonder then why they are so believable.
In the last few years, psychics have grown in number. Only a few of them, however, do possess some sort of ‘gift,’ only a few of them are honest psychics. Still, these people have found creative ways of making people think they are real.
Whether this is true or not, the Roman Catholic Church is against it. They claim that it is not possible to communicate with the dead. They say that psychic readings do not really communicate with the dead’s spirit, but with the demon itself. Biblical evidence cited by them claims that the soul of the departed takes an inanimate form while waiting for the Final Judgement. So, whoever is talking to any vessel to the living is surely not the spirit; it could be anything but the spirit.
Besides, the church says, why should you want to talk with the dead? Or, why would the dead want to talk with you? They have died because their business on earth is done; they have died because God called them to be with Him.
